Kleurentheorie voor webdesigners: kleurenpaletten extraheren en gebruiken

Dit artikel is beschikbaar in het Engels. De interface is vertaald naar Nederlands.

Color is one of the most powerful tools in web design. Understanding how to extract and use color palettes from images can elevate your designs.

Color Palette Extraction

Extracting colors from images uses algorithms like k-means clustering:

1. Sample pixels from the image

2. Group similar colors together

3. Find the average color of each group

4. Return the dominant colors

Color Harmony Rules

  • Complementary: Colors opposite on the color wheel
  • Analogous: Colors adjacent on the color wheel
  • Triadic: Three equally spaced colors
  • Split-complementary: A color plus two adjacent to its complement
  • Practical Application

    1. Extract a palette from your brand imagery

    2. Use the dominant color as your primary

    3. Choose lighter/darker variants for backgrounds and text

    4. Use accent colors sparingly for CTAs and highlights

Try our Color Palette Extractor to generate palettes from any image with CSS variable export.

Designers building a palette from scratch will also enjoy our Photo Filters tool for quickly testing colour grades against a reference image.
