About Base64 to Image Converter
Last updated: October 2026
Base64 image strings turn up in API responses, data URIs in stylesheets, JSON payloads and database columns, and they are unreadable until something decodes them. Paste the string - with or without the data:image/... prefix - and you get the image back, displayed and downloadable in its original format. The decode happens in your browser, which is the part that matters: these strings regularly come out of production systems and contain user uploads, scanned documents or internal assets, and pasting one into a server-side decoder hands that content to a third party. Nothing here is transmitted. If the string is malformed or truncated, which is common when it has been copied out of a log, decoding fails rather than producing a corrupt file.
How It Works
The string is decoded to bytes in your browser, the format detected from the data URI prefix or the file signature, and the result rendered for preview and offered as a download. Nothing is transmitted.
Use Cases
- •Seeing what an image in an API response actually is
- •Extracting an image from a data URI in a stylesheet
- •Recovering an image stored as text in a database column
- •Debugging an upload that is being passed around as Base64
