About WebP to PNG Converter
Last updated: October 2026
When a WebP has transparency and you need it somewhere that does not read WebP, PNG is the conversion that loses nothing: both formats carry an alpha channel, and PNG is lossless, so the pixels that come out are the pixels that went in. That makes this the right choice for logos, icons, UI assets and anything with a cut-out background - converting those to JPEG would flatten the transparency onto a solid colour and soften the edges. The decode and the PNG encode both run in your browser, with OxiPNG doing the compression, so the files are not uploaded and the output is smaller than a naive PNG write without touching image quality. Expect PNG files to be considerably larger than the WebP they came from; that is the cost of lossless and it is unavoidable, not a fault in the conversion.
How It Works
The WebP is decoded in your browser to raw pixels including its alpha channel, then written as PNG with OxiPNG compiled to WebAssembly, which searches for the smallest lossless encoding. The whole pipeline runs on your own CPU - no upload, no size limit, and the alpha channel is carried through untouched.
Use Cases
- •Converting a transparent logo or icon saved from a website into a usable PNG
- •Preparing cut-out product images for software that cannot read WebP
- •Getting WebP UI assets into a design tool that expects PNG
- •Keeping an alpha channel intact when a JPEG conversion would destroy it
- •Batch-converting downloaded WebP assets without losing a pixel
