About SVG to PNG Converter
Last updated: October 2026
An SVG is instructions, not pixels, which is why it scales perfectly and why so much software will not take it. Converting to PNG rasterises those instructions at a size you choose - and choosing the size is the whole job, because once it is a PNG the resolution independence is gone. Export at the dimensions the asset will actually be used at, or larger; scaling a small PNG up afterwards only blurs it. Transparency survives the conversion, since both formats carry an alpha channel, which is what makes PNG the right target for logos and icons rather than JPEG. The render and the PNG encode both happen in your browser, with OxiPNG keeping the output as small as lossless allows.
How It Works
The SVG is rendered in your browser at the dimensions you choose and written out as PNG with OxiPNG compiled to WebAssembly, which searches for the smallest lossless encoding. The alpha channel is preserved and nothing is uploaded.
Use Cases
- •Exporting a logo as PNG for software that will not take SVG
- •Producing icon assets at specific pixel sizes
- •Getting a raster version of a vector diagram for a document
- •Creating high-density (2x) exports for a website
