About Photo Effects

OptiPix Photo Effects is a creative filter playground for turning any photo into an artistic style. Pencil sketch uses inverted-blur color-dodge blending for the classic graphite look. Cartoon combines bilateral smoothing with edge detection and color quantization for a comic-book feel. Oil painting uses a Kuwahara filter to create the characteristic stroke effect. Watercolor smooths and reduces colors with paper texture overlay. Pop art posterizes to vibrant colors in Andy Warhol style. Pixel art downscales with nearest-neighbor for that retro 8-bit look. Halftone, emboss, glitch, VHS retro, comic book, and line art round out the collection. Each effect has tunable parameters (intensity, brush size, color depth) and a real-time preview. Browse effects in a thumbnail grid where each preview shows your actual image with the effect applied — pick the one you like, fine-tune, and download as PNG, JPEG, or WebP. Everything runs in your browser using HTML Canvas pixel manipulation — your photos never leave your device.

How It Works

Each effect is implemented as a Canvas pixel-level operation: edge detection (Sobel), bilateral filtering, color quantization, blur composites, and convolution kernels. Results are streamed back to a preview canvas in real time.

How many effects are there?
13 effects: Pencil Sketch, Color Pencil, Ink Line Art, Cartoon, Watercolor, Oil Painting, Pop Art, Warhol Grid, Pixel Art, Halftone, Emboss, Glitch/VHS, and Paper Texture.
How does the pencil sketch work?
It inverts your photo, blurs the inversion, then blends back with a color dodge — the classic darkroom recipe for graphite-style sketches.
Can I tune the strength of an effect?
Yes. Each effect has parameters like intensity, brush size, or color count, plus a global blend slider to mix with the original.
Can I stack multiple effects?
Yes. Toggle Stack mode and add effects one at a time. Each effect is applied to the result of the previous, like Photoshop layers.
Does the Warhol grid effect actually create the 4-panel multi-color look?
Yes. Pick the Warhol effect and choose 2×2 or 3×3 panels — each panel uses a different pop-art color scheme.
Is there a paper texture for sketches/watercolors?
Yes. Stack the Paper Texture effect after a sketch or watercolor to add a procedural noise texture for paper realism.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. All effects run in any modern browser, including Chrome, Safari, and Firefox on mobile.
Can I batch-process multiple photos?
