About AVIF to PNG Converter
Last updated: October 2026
AVIF carries an alpha channel and so does PNG, which makes PNG the conversion that loses nothing when the image has transparency - a logo, an icon, a cut-out product shot. Converting to JPEG instead would flatten those transparent pixels onto a solid colour and soften the edges. The trade is size: AVIF is the most efficient format in common use and PNG is lossless, so expect the output to be substantially larger, sometimes several times. That is the price of a file older software will actually open. The decode and the PNG encode both run in your browser with OxiPNG finding the smallest lossless encoding, so nothing is uploaded and there is no cap on how many you convert.
How It Works
The AVIF is decoded in your browser including its alpha channel and written as PNG with OxiPNG compiled to WebAssembly, which searches for the smallest lossless encoding. Transparency is carried through untouched and nothing is uploaded.
Use Cases
- •Converting a transparent AVIF logo for software that cannot read AVIF
- •Getting a lossless working copy of a web-saved AVIF
- •Preparing AVIF assets for a design tool that expects PNG
- •Keeping an alpha channel that a JPEG conversion would destroy
