About WebM to MP4 Converter
Last updated: October 2026
WebM is a web-native format and tends to be what you end up with after a browser screen recording or a download from a site that serves it. It plays fine in browsers and then stops being useful: plenty of video editors, phone galleries, presentation software and messaging apps expect MP4 and nothing else. Converting re-encodes the video to H.264 and the audio to AAC, the pair that works essentially everywhere. Because this is a re-encode rather than a repackage, there is a small generational quality cost - unavoidable when the source and target use different codecs, and not visible at sensible settings. FFmpeg runs in your browser, so the video is never uploaded and there is no length limit or watermark.
How It Works
FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly decodes the WebM, re-encoding the VP8 or VP9 video as H.264 and the Vorbis or Opus audio as AAC. Those two are packed into an MP4 container, entirely in your browser, so the video is never uploaded and there is no length cap.
Use Cases
- •Getting a browser screen recording into a video editor
- •Making a WebM playable on a phone or in a gallery app
- •Converting for presentation software that only takes MP4
- •Sending video through an app that rejects WebM
