About PNG to WebP Converter
Last updated: October 2026
PNG is the honest choice for graphics and the expensive one for the web: lossless, transparent where it needs to be, and often several times larger than it has to be. WebP does both jobs - it carries a full alpha channel like PNG, and it compresses far harder, which usually makes it the single biggest page-weight win available for logos, icons, UI assets and cut-out product images. You get both modes here. Lossless WebP reproduces the PNG exactly and is typically 20-30% smaller than the PNG with nothing given up at all, which makes it the safe default for graphics. Lossy WebP goes much further - often an order of magnitude below the PNG - and for a photographic image with a transparent background that is frequently invisible and worth taking. Transparency survives either way. The conversion runs in your browser with libwebp, so nothing is uploaded and there is no batch limit.
How It Works
The PNG is decoded in your browser including its alpha channel and re-encoded as WebP with libwebp compiled to WebAssembly, in lossless or lossy mode as you choose. The alpha channel is carried through in both. Everything runs on your own CPU, with no upload and no batch limit.
Use Cases
- •Cutting the weight of transparent logos and icons on a site
- •Converting cut-out product images without losing their transparency
- •Shrinking exported design assets before they go into a build
- •Replacing heavy PNG screenshots in documentation
- •Batch-converting a UI asset folder for a performance budget
