About PNG to JPG Converter
Last updated: October 2026
PNG is lossless, which is exactly what you want for a screenshot or a logo and exactly what you do not want for a photograph you are about to email. The same picture as JPEG is routinely a fraction of the size, and for photographic content the difference is invisible at normal viewing size. This converter re-encodes PNG to JPEG in your browser with MozJPEG, with a quality slider so you decide where on the size-against-fidelity curve to land. The one thing to decide first is transparency: JPEG cannot store it, so any transparent area has to be flattened onto a solid colour. You pick that colour, and the tool flags when the PNG you dropped in actually has transparency, rather than silently filling it with white and leaving you to discover the halo later. No upload, no account, and no limit on how many files you put through it.
How It Works
The PNG is decoded in your browser, flattened onto your chosen background colour if it carries transparency, and re-encoded as JPEG with MozJPEG compiled to WebAssembly. The quality slider drives the encoder directly, so you can re-encode at a different setting instantly and compare before downloading. Nothing is uploaded at any point.
Use Cases
- •Shrinking photographic PNGs before emailing or uploading them
- •Meeting an upload form's JPEG-only requirement
- •Cutting page weight by converting photographic PNGs used on a website
- •Flattening a transparent PNG onto a specific background colour for print or a document
- •Batch-converting exported PNGs from a design tool into deliverable JPGs
