About MP4 to WAV Converter
Last updated: October 2026
WAV is raw PCM - no compression, no codec, just the samples - which is why editors, transcription tools, samplers and mastering chains all ask for it. If you are feeding a video's audio into something that will process it further, WAV is the format that will not fight you, because nothing has to be decoded first and no lossy artefacts compound at each step. Two things worth knowing before you start. WAV is large: roughly ten megabytes a minute for stereo at 44.1kHz and sixteen bits, so an hour-long recording is well over half a gigabyte. And converting cannot undo what has already been lost - the audio inside an MP4 is usually AAC, which is lossy, so a WAV made from it is an exact copy of already-compressed audio, not a restoration of the original. It is the right format for editing onward; it is not a quality upgrade. Nothing is uploaded, there is no length cap and no watermark.
How It Works
FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly demuxes the file, decodes its audio stream and writes it out as sixteen-bit PCM in a WAV container with no compression applied. It runs entirely in your browser, so the video is never uploaded and the only limit is your own device's memory.
Use Cases
- •Feeding a recording into an editor that expects uncompressed audio
- •Preparing audio for a transcription or speech model
- •Pulling a clean sample out of video footage
- •Archiving the audio from a master without adding another lossy generation
